So I thought it was very impressive that someone will be coming to the workshop from Saskatoon. Today, though, I got a registration from *Colorado Springs*. That's going to be quite a record to beat! (For the record, the geobytes city distance finder says it's 686 miles. Uff da!)

And that would be me from the Springs - thank you very much. :) Looking forward to meeting everyone, the workshop (of course!) and the performances!

As I've told Cherish, I'm originally from ND but have lived in Colorado since 1997. I usually get back to Fargo a few times a year to visit friends and family. Fat Chance gave me an excuse to get back a little earlier than I expected this year.

      See you all in September!

It amazes me how many North Dakotans end up in Colorado. I think the extreme of open plains to towering mountains would freak me out ;) (though I do like to visit CO!)

I think you get a few stray North Dakotans just about everywhere. It's uncommon enough that it sticks out in people's minds.

When I went out to Pasadena for school, one of my friends from governor's school went to the same school with me and I ended up in a dorm with someone else from North Dakota. Of course, we were the only three on the entire campus, but still... :-) Then when I was looking at grad schools, I went to AZ and met someone who actually had gone to UND for his masters and knew one of my officemates (at the time) because he'd taken some classes with him as an undergrad.

Incidentally, Kari dances with Mike's cousin's wife. (Yeah, I know that's convoluted...) :-D

we laugh about this, but as it applies to Winnipeg. Everywhere we go, someone says that they USED to live in Winnipeg. It's my main argument every time I try to get Brian to move - everyone else left, why aren't we?!?!

Thanks so much for hosting this workshop -Winnipeg dancers can't wait!!!! And I'm thinking you're going to overflow the workshop space #-wise!

Ah...it seems like everyone I know who leaves North Dakota eventually gets sick of where they're living and moves back home for at least a little while. (Thank goodness, too...that's how I met Mike...he moved back from Seattle about the same time I moved back from Cali.) :-) ND is like a big black hole that sucks you back.

So where do you want to move? Let me guess...Portland? :-D

LOL, sure if Immigration would let Canadians into/work in the country! Barring that, west coast British Columbia (on any of the islands) or back home to Toronto, ON.

Hee, hee...I still wish you could talk Norm and Kristina into coming. :-D

I'm glad you were able to finagle your travel plans to accomodate the workshop.

As far as NDers in other states, let me tell you - they are everywhere! I've lived in New Mexico, Arizona, Michigan and Colorado. I always seem to find a flatlander in my midst. It's amazing how surviving 80 below windchills creates bonds between people.

The fun part here is when we all get together for the UND-CC hockey games. It's amazing how many Sioux fans come out of the woodwork. It makes me so proud. <sniff> ;-)

As for returning to ND, my friends there would love it but Colorado is where I plan to stay. It's so beautiful. Can't imagine living anywhere else. And we're not giving Norm and Kristina back. They're ours now. :-D

"It's amazing how surviving 80 below windchills creates bonds between people. "

That and the "remember when we used to have nothing to do"...which was all the time as a teenager. :-)

I used to never think I'd return...but then I found out how expensive it was to have kids and live in CA. Actually, long term, Mike and I may end up moving elsewhere. It depends on whether or not I can get a job in ND when I'm finished with my PhD (and that leaves two places: NDSU or UND). If not, we want to live someplace with mountains so we can go be ski bums all the time. :-D

Can you give them back temporarily???? :-D

LOL And there's always the battle of whose hometown was smaller (mine was 1700 on a good day).

Yeah, so many people leave CA once they have kids. It's a great place when you have 2 paychecks and no little ones but kids tend to consume all that disposable income in fairly short order. Which is why I have a dog and 2 hedgehogs (and live in CO). :)

Well, maybe we'll loan Norm and Kristina to you for a week or so but that's it! And we will charge late fees. :)

BTW, what area are you studying for your PhD?

Right now I'm working on my master's in electrical engineering, so that I can get some "practical" knowledge in using and designing equipment. (As an undergrad, I found I frequently had problems doing research because of lack of knowledge of the equipment.) When I go for the PhD, I'm hoping for something like geophysics or space physics, but it depends on where Mike can get a job. One of the top 3 choices is UC Boulder, though. :-)

You have a hedgehog, eh? Gotta see that sometime. I didn't even know they'd make good pets.

My husband's hometown is 112... ;-D (I was born in a "big city" in North Dakota so I always lose that particular competition.)
