I'm trying out for a dance competition next week...doing a SOLO! Please wish me luck, and remind me to smile, and all that jazz. I'm starting to get freaked. :-)

    I made it!

I was selected to be in the show (next week).

But I have to say that auditions were quite interesting. I was one of only two people who attended in costume. I saw some other girls quite obviously laughing at me. But I think once I did my stuff, they realized I was hard-core. :-)

And the judge just sat there with a stoney face. Ugh. I really don't like that.

      Cherish,
So glad to hear it went well! You'll have to give us a recap about the show.

I can't imagine auditioning out of costume - especially for tribal style dance. It helps so much to create the mood. Wouldn't be the same in my sweat pants :)

That's what I was thinking! My hip movements aren't going to be as impressive without fringe and coins. The costume is a big part of being an entertainer. And I'd just look stupid with a sword on my head if I were wearing a t-shirt and jeans (not to mention, I'd be uncomfortable because they aren't made for dancing).

Congrats, Cherish! And, yes, the costuming is a big part of the presentation. When we auditioned for a local show, they were so in awe of the costuming that I wasn't sure they were even going to ask us to dance. It was like "no, really, we actually have skills to back up all this beautiful fabric and jewelry." :-)

Ack - stoney-faced audiences are the worst. Do they think it's a ballet recital?
